THE EZLN LAUNCHES "LA OTRA CAMPAÑA" THE OTHER CAMPAIGN:

Following the Red Alert in Zapatista territory in July, the EZLN announced the birth of a new campaign to bring together leftist groups all over the country and try and decide on a nation-wide plan of action to bring about radical social change. The "Other Campaign" began with a series of preparatory meetings in August where unions, campesino organisations, indigenous groups, social justice organisations, collectives, NGO's, and leftist groups and individuals were invited to present themselves and their vision of how the campaign could be brought about. This culminated in a plenary meeting in the Caracol of La Garrucha in September where the main points and general principles of the campaign were agree on. By October, 64 political leftist organisations, 118 indigenous groups, 197 social organisations, 474 NGO's-groups-collectives and 1898 individuals had signed up to take part in the campaign.

The campaign will kick off in January where Subcommandate Insurgente Marcos will begin a tour of every state in the country to begin making contact with all the groups who are taking part in the campaign. The tour begins on the first of January and will return to Chiapas in June, just before the presidential elections...if everything goes according to plan.
