In the immediate aftermath of Acteal the army starts to raid Zapatista communities, prompting a massive international response. In retaliation the government expels hundreds of international observers.

On the 15th of April the Mexican 'security' forces raid Diez de Abril, arresting three Norwegian peace observers and deporting them.
June
The autonomous municipality of San Juan de la Libertad is attacked by the army on June 9th. Prisoners taken in this raid are executed later and their bodies returned in a state of advanced decomposition.
